How to Choose the Right Hair Oil for Your Hair Type

A guide to choosing the right hair oil for your hair type and texture.

How to Choose the Right Hair Oil for Your Hair Type

Hair oils smooth frizz, add shine, and protect against heat damage. But the wrong oil can leave hair greasy. Matching oil weight to your texture makes the difference.

Fine Hair

Use lightweight oils like argan, grapeseed, or jojoba. Apply two to three drops to damp ends only. Avoid roots to maintain volume.

Thick and Coarse Hair

Richer oils like coconut, olive, and castor penetrate the shaft for deep hydration. Apply as pre-wash treatments leaving 30 minutes or overnight.

Curly and Coily Hair

Natural oils have difficulty traveling down curly shafts. Heavier oils seal moisture into curls. Apply to wet hair using the LOC method (liquid, oil, cream).

Damaged Hair

Argan oil contains vitamin E and fatty acids repairing the cuticle. Apply a few drops to damp hair after washing. Start with less than you think you need. The right amount leaves hair healthy without visible oiliness.
